Life is Best Experienced With Friends
Evan Glogowski We looked around, it was a white out. I could barely see five feet in front of me. Yet I found it peaceful and exciting at the same time. A few friends and I looked at each other, excitement in our eyes as we nodded high fived and dropped into the deep pow. There must have been three or four feet of untouched powder. Every turn sent an ocean like wave of powder into the sky, and every turn made me realize how lucky I am to experience something like this. This is why I believe that life is best experienced with others. This trip wasn't the easiest to make possible. When Wolf creek gets snow it doesn't snow just a little it always snows a lot and that has it's upsides and it's downsides. A downside happens to be the drive. It took us hours to make it over the treacherous icy road, but some people weren't lucky to make it over the pass without trouble. Countless cars we saw couldn't handle the icy conditions and slid back down the road to where they started. Not to mention the low visibility due to the the heavy snowfall. In the end we made it up the pass and into wolf creeks packed parking lot. We stepped out of the car and grabbed our gear, Put it all on and went to buy our tickets, the line was pretty long but completely worth it. We definitely got the bang for our buck. Our first runs I thought couldn't get any better but man I couldn't have been more wrong. Each turn was like riding on top of a cloud, making the countless drops and transitions we found more like a dream I would have during the summer. Sadly we had to take a lunch break. Stomachs full we decided to take the hike to the peak of the resort, a decision I'll never forget and won't ever regret. The hike was beyond difficult, snow so deep we sunk to our waists every step and wind so strong we almost lost our snowboards to the insane strength of it. The hike was unforgettable but the ride down was even more unbelievable. Dropping into the endless powder was something I've never experienced before and I hope to experience again. At the end of every winter day snowboarding always isn't just a sport it's an art of style. To me it's all about having as much fun as possible, it's all about friends and fun. Together this was the best experience I've ever had in my life, and the most fun I've ever had. Looking back at this now I realize how much friendship has made my life better. Made snowboarding more than just a sport to me. Everything that I have done with friends has been a greater experience than alone and I'm really grateful for that. |
This I believe is a personal essay building upon what you believe in. In the essay we tell a personal experience we had that support our This I believe Statement. In my essay I said “This is why I believe life is best experienced with friends” and before and after that I gave examples with my snowboarding experiences. “ A few friends and I looked at each other, excitement in our eyes as we nodded high fived and dropped into the deep pow. There must have been three or four feet of untouched powder. Every turn sent an ocean like wave of powder into the sky, and every turn made me realize how lucky I am to experience something like this.” and then I followed this up with my this I believe statement. This Project I thought was to learn more about ourselves and made me appreciate things more now that i've reflected on them.
This project didn't have very many major problems. A problem I did end up coming across was choosing a good story and experience to go along with my This I Believe Statement. But this essay has taught me to write better at a personal perspective and made me better at storytelling, writing has not only improved my skills as a writer but peer critiquing and revising has helped me a lot too. This was the best work I could have created at the time personally but I maybe could have improved on the communal relevance part of this essay. That Is something I will focus a lot on next time. This project was pretty cool being that I could write about something that I am passionate about, bringing out the best in my writing. My favorite part of this project was being able to write about what I want and how I want. In my essay i'm proud of myself for being able to create good descriptions that help the reader visualize my experience. Here in my essay I feel I described this well “We looked around, it was a white out. I could barely see five feet in front of me. Yet I found it peaceful and exciting at the same time. A few friends and I looked at each other, excitement in our eyes as we nodded high fived and dropped into the deep pow. There must have been three or four feet of untouched powder. Every turn sent an ocean like wave of powder into the sky” This is where I feel I excel in my essay. Through this project I have learned that people's individual beliefs are very important. By writing this essay I felt like I opened my eyes to really how lucky I am to have awesome friends I can experience something like that with. Discussing beliefs with my classmates has also made me realize how every person is very different and has had very different experiences. That's what really opened my eyes to beliefs in general. |
